Bush’s Impeachment Investigation Begins, But No One Cares

2008 July 17

So, yesterday as I chit-chatted with Mike, this blog’s absentee co-founder while he works as an Obama fellow, he pointed out this article on DailyKos. I’m not a regular reader of the netroots; I read news from a few issue sites (Grist, Dissident Voice, Factcheck) but generally the news I digest is a conglomeration of mainstream media stuff and a few other semi-honorable reporting sources such as NPR, Christian Science Monitor, Reuters, etc… So you can imagine my surprise when I found that the article was about the House’s approval of sending the Kucinich impeachment articles to the House Judiciary Committee for investigation. Lo’ and Behold, the story is true. The House yesterday, by a vote of 238 to 180, approved investigating commander and leader of our country on 35 different crimes, with the possibility of impeachment.

I then went on a hunt through all the major news sources, checking their front pages and some of their political sections for news of this, only to end up perturbed. The only major news source carrying this as a story this morning is Yahoo News. Now Yahoo rightly points out that at this point the Committee is only intended to investigate not go forward with impeachment proceeding; however I consider the fact that our commander in chief and vice president could go down in flames and by the time the year is out we could all be hailing President Pelosi an important piece of news.

So, in an effort to draw attention to the issue, I have compiled a list of more important headlines than the impeachment investigation from some of the major news outlets on this, the morning of July 17.

New York Times: Seattle Gives Up On Its Public Toilets, Cable Series in Running For Emmys, Who’s That Girl (Madonna article)

CNN:Che Guevara Shirts Fit for Terrorists, Sex Sting Nabs ‘World’s Greatest Dad,’ Queen’s Palace Has Leaks, Asbestos

ABC News: Surfer Outruns 6 foot Shark, Woman Loses 140 pounds – of Tumor, Bipolar Billionaire Missing 11 Days on Oahu

Fox News: 94 year old avoids charges of soliciting hooker, ‘Beast’ Man Jailed for Animal Porn, 11 Year Old With Radar Gun Has Drivers on the Breaks

MSNBC: Man Claims to Find Knife In Subway Sandwich -Sues, The Boy Radar Gun Story Again, Jackson Used N-Word In On Air Remarks

Huffington Post: McCain’s Ape Rape Joke Recalled By Sources, Top McCain VP Pick Killed ‘South Carolina Is So Gay’ Ad, Andy Dick Arrested On Drug And Sex Charges

AP: Cleveland Clinic Taking Kidney Through Navel, Hippie’s Town Homeless Attack Portends Trend, Obama Becomes a Gym Rat

Reuters: New Crop of Cable Shows Break Through At Emmys, San Francisco Most Walkable U.S. city, Gay Marriage-Steroids In Sports

NPR: Robert Redford Fights Global Warming With Poetry, The Joker: Torn Between Goof and Evil, Road Trips: Songs to Drive-By

Let’s Hear it for all those out that with a Journalistic Devotion to the Truth…

Huzzah?

    Nor are they reporting on:
    - Bush claims executive privilege for Rove in Plame case
-US paying Sunni militias (many having been death squads) for reduction in Iraq violence – which is why violence is down
-Bush administration has drafted a proposal requiring hospitals, researchers, clinics and medical schools, if they would like to receive funds from the Dept. of Health and Human Services, to sign a certificate that they will not refuse to hire nurses and doctors who object to abortion and birth control.

I firmly believe this administration has extended its tentacles into the higher echelons of mainstream media (Rathergate), using threats and intimidation to control journalistic efforts.

Also, the competition for ratings has these “professional” reporters talking about:
-A Russian buying Trumps Florida home
-Hillary Clinton now parting her hair on the other side

There are plenty of necessary national news stories out there and this lack of responsibility makes me want to gag – they should all be ashamed of themselves.

    opposition to birth control?

Are we run by the president or the pope?

Last time I bother you all this week.
I liked this post because it appealed to my conflicted centrist inner child. It soothed the poor little guy since my Right side could appreciate it as well as those bits o’ Left in me.
Marc you could just tweak this post every day or so and regenerate a truth. You sadly will be able to do that for this summer, fall and after 1.20.09 imo.
    Meredith mostly and Marc.

Is this really any different from shutting down adoption agencies or defunding youth groups ?

I guess Alfie but I’m gonna need more context to see where you’re going with that.

I think we can live with Bush for at least a few more months. Plus impeachment could never happen because it take too long for the senate to do anything.

It’s also interesting to note through what type of media (tv paper web) the mainstreamers finally decide to report stories through. I agree that this should be breaking news, though the mainstream will act sluggishly, eventually reporting on it in the evening (maybe only once). NYTimes.com will have a piece on it, but I dont know if it will make it into the actual paper (dont buy it, dont know). ABCnews.com will do something (not sure it will make it into programming). I am thankful that I use the net as my primary source for news, but the sad reality as we know is that most dont, so net news may be serving a dual purpose (passifying both arguements of journalistic accountability / net newsgetters), for seeming to get the info ‘out there!’

Nobody cares because only the nutjobs, flakes, loons, dolts, and moonbats don’t think it is a complete waste of time. George Bush even laughs at you.

You guys a bunch of troofers too? I know most of you are dorks by looking at your pictures but I never thought having sand kicked in your faces in the formative years would carry over into your adult life.

Do you guys ever date or kissed a girl? Or do you sit around making up conspiracies and hand symbols like the castoffs from the lowest form of fraternity?

Ever thought about picking up a football and kicking it around instead of putzing on the PlayStation? Something manly like running a skill saw?

It will make you feel good about yourself and help your complexion.

Don’t turn that MSNBC or PBS channel. I’m afraid your head would explode!!!

Did you see where Dan Rather, the same one caught lying like a dog about G.W. with the hag Mapes, had even his old time CBS chums turning on him today Mere? Personally, I’d like to see Mike Wallace do an interview on 60 Minutes interviewing the fraudulent Dan and finish him off. His career is over so why not put Dan out of his misery?

Don’t you know Molly is rolling over in her grave about now knowing old Shrub is still kickin’ her ugly, lib ass?

    Tex,
I was captain of my rugby team, hiked the mountains to the sea trail across North Carolina (the wide part) and am currently still recovering from a vicious sunburn acquired while rock climbing last weekend. I in fact work as a conservationist and therefore outdoors.

However only people with fear of their own inadequacies generally delve and brag about their sex lives or try to tear down the sex lives of others.

Is all this anger because I have long hair or because with your own self professed chemical engineering/medical career plus family life you regret no longer having your own freedom.

I’m afraid though Tex that at this point your comments no longer even have the vaguest semblance of intelligent debate, so from here on out, mindless attacks will be spammed.

This isn’t censorship; this is helping you. For all your self-proclaimed conservative christian values you apparently never learned manners or christian forgiveness.

    I’ll pray for you.

Impeachment will likely go nowhere, but I appreciate that some people in Congress are trying to put it in the record: WE OBJECTED

To warrantless wiretaps, countless scandals (we’re on our 3rd Attorney General, 2nd Secretary of Defense, 2nd Secretary of State, FOURTH press secretary!), to endlessly claiming executive privilege and ignoring subpoenas, to an explosion in national debt, to obscuring facts on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, to cronyism and corruption and generally incompetence

It also has the effect of trying to tie the President down in case of military action against Iran

If no one pushed impeachment, historians would look back at us and wonder, “How did the most unpopular president in history continue to get his way until the day he left office? Why did a Democratic Congress elected to resist him capitulate on almost every issue?”

Is there some place I bragged about my sex life? Did I miss that; another senior moment? LOL.

It is censorship, it is gutless, and proves my point about libs. They are completely afraid to be challenged, have no ideas of substance and absolutely can’t stand to be poked fun of. Once they get off the beaten path, they’re hopelessly lost.

But you pray for me anyway. I don’t know what god you will pray to, but you pray anyway…

You want to ban me, ban me.

    Oh Tex,

At this point I just assume you are a high school freshman with some sort of sociopath complex or another and you just pose as a learned Republican mudslinger just for kicks.

If that isn’t the truth, it sure is the perception. I appreciate the conservative viewpoint and always welcome civil discourse. Unfortunately I have seen no such thing come from you. You are welcome to continue posting here, but I, for one, will not engage you in conversation any further. I’ll be too busy playing Playstation and not kissing girls.

Anyway, impeachment at this point isn’t about getting Bush out of office. He’s leaving soon no matter what. Impeachment now is holding that man accountable for the injustices he has done not only to the American (and Iraqi and Afghani etc etc) people, but also to our Constitution, the rule of law and the balance of power within our government. If this man leaves the White House unchallenged by the Legislative of Judicial branches, the dominance of the Executive will be embedded in our system. A precedent will be set that will be damn difficult to undo. We can’t afford to have Bush and Co. leave behind the tools they used to create the hell that they have over the passed 8 years.

I guess Mike you haven’t figured out that most of America disagrees with you as indicated by the deafening silence – and in fact, kind of like Dennis UFO, would think most of you are kind of flighty?

I can admire your valid attempt at becoming actively involved as I wish all young people would, while still laughing at your childish whims of thinking you’re doing something really profound.

All you are Mike is a newer, less hip version of the 60’s rejects, most whom are fading into obscurity.

    Enjoy your youth….
