I’m Glad MoveOn Put That ‘Boy Meets World’ Guy To Work

2008 July 28

MoveOn, in its attempts at parody, have done nothing but make a mockery of itself while proving the conservative right; that the far left can’t think rationally – only in terms of “hope and change:. Not that there aren’t tons of other things MoveOn could spend money on for advertising. Sometimes, in my association with them, I wish the political left would grow a political sniffer. This is the second bad ad they’ve put out this election season, along with that McCain Babykilling video.

At least they put that kid from Boy Meets World to work.

Aw man. . .to state that the far left can’t think straight is just outright bizarre. For one, this country doesn’t have a far left. You see communist gatherings advertised on MoveOn? No? Socialists? No? Your idea if “far left” is progressive taxes and personal liberties? Yeah. That sounds about like the soundbites I’m used to hearing.

But okay, I’ll give you “far left”, for the sake of expediency. I’ll even grant you that moveon represents the “far left”, rather than simply the progressive netroots.

Having granted you all that ground, I fail entirely to see what’s wrong with this ad. It’s charming, compelling, and well composed. And there really isn’t anything wrong with hope as a concept. There are not many people who think that our country has been well governed over the last three quarters of a decade, and people feel that they have suffered for it. A message of change and, dare I say, hope is bound to resonate.

This ad is relatively benign compared to others MoveOn has put out in the past. Other than making snide comments about the Bush Administration like most of us have, it talks about hope. I think hope is a good thing too. I think I just object to the C-list celebrities.

    Capostrophe,

Here’s some of your “progressive netroots” in action. A Who’s Who picture collection of anarchists, dimwits, lefty activists, and assorted other deviants.

For one, this country doesn’t have a far left.

Wrong; we’ve got a whole host of commies, pinkos, Che flag wavers, anti-Semitic types, and various other thugs in Northern California alone…Take a look through the entire site, then come back and and tell me we don’t have a far left in America.

    Well, Capostrophe,
I don’t agree with Tex per say, I do agree, however that you blank generalization is pretty poor.

MoveOn, as they only advertise too well, represents millions. I imagine some are communists and socialists. Nor did I characterize personal liberties or progressive taxes as “left.” I haven’t seen MoveOn boasting support for any Republicans lately or for that matter, many democratic blue-dog centrists, so excuse me if i categorized them as “left.”

I’ll have you know i categorize myself as left, I just get pissed when one of the bigger leftist organizations (I wouldn’t say they represent the progressive netroots, as it leaves out the Kos crowd and a number of other different groups) fails to actually discuss issues politics and decides to discuss fluff.

Christ, how long before the Republicans turn around with a video of joyous Dems holdinh onto “hope” as they go down on a sinking ship. I know there is a lot more to this campaign and candidate and hopefully so do you.

Barack Obama is in fact made of more than just a bottle of liquid hope. He’s a man with a number of important stands on the issues which a number of people could stand to do know more about.

Thats a “progressive” stance. What MoveOn advertises is self-righteousness, which never helps and rarely catches on past its exclusive self-righteous club.
