British Fascism…
…or damn close, when members of the opposition are being arrested by “counterrorism officers” (a pasty British MP requires counterterrorism officers?) for having obtained leaked documents. The MP had received documents from a whistleblower within the government who objected to government ministers allowing illegal aliens being allowed to work as security guards.
Mr Green, who is the shadow immigration minister, was arrested at his home in Kent by counter-terrorism police officers.
The arrest follows a series of leaks to the Conservatives about Government policy, including a sensitive memorandum from the Home Office’s most senior official on crime figures earlier this month.
David Cameron, the Conservative leader, is said to be “extremely angry” about the arrest and has privately accused the Government of “Stalinesque” behaviour.
Mr Green is understood to have been arrested at lunchtime today and is still in custody. He has not been charged.
Green has been arrested after obtaining leaked Whitehall documents. Police searched his family home and his office in the House of Commons.
He was arrested for “aiding and abetting misconduct in public office”.
It is claimed that nine counter-terrorism officers were involved in the arrest.
The role of whistleblowers in protecting the country from abuses in government, is an important one and often the only way violations on the part of government are often uncovered. That a member of the opposition party would be criminally punished by the majority party for having obtained documents uncovering abuses or neglect by the majority is outrageous. This kind of crack down not only is in blatant disregard of an obvious conflict of interest on Labour’s part, but also grossly violated political ethos.
It is in direct violation of the protections afforded to the minority in democracies.

I’ve been following this on British blogs and the media. It really drives home a different take on our cousins across the Pond.
I have to say though this seems very internal for them. Meaning I don’t think the parties matter so much as their take on policing and security.
The fact that he was a Conservative MP matters little, sides are not as stringent in the UK as they are in the US. Everything has back flipped now though, there will be inquiries and various high ranking MPs are calling for resignations.
